Search Engine Optimization Strategies
24 February 2012
For those starting a website for the first time, you may not truly understand how important the right meta tags & content are, or how they will help your site get indexed properly by search engines like Google and Bing.
The proper meta information and good quality content work together to improve a website's search engine placement and ranking.
When we talk about quality meta tags and keywords we don't just mean "Web Design" or "Web Development." Customers are looking for specific things based upon their interests, location, and most importantly, needs. When we talk about keywords we mean keyword phrases, you should understand that one word isn't going to bring you the search engine placement you are looking for.
Keyword meta tags should be phrases with multiple specific words that reflect your company. These phrases should include your location, your products, and/or any other words that could specifically describe your company to your potential customers.
A website's primary keywords should appear within the content of a website, as well as the title, and description. When deciding upon keywords, look into your company and find as many words that pinpoint your company or products the best. Location is a strong area of interest for potential clients and should be used in your keyword phrase. Here at QuinnCom Web Design, we use many keywords that direct potential clients to our site. As stated above, the
keyword "Web Design" isn't going to bring customers with specific interests to our door.
Using QuinnCom as an example, we have many keyword meta tags that help customers find us on the web. For instance, QuinnCom uses keywords such as, "north palm web design, west palm beach web design, web page design in South Florida, web design in Jupiter, florida web site design, florida web development", just to name a few. Adding locations around you will definitely improve your rankings and attract more customers. Another way to refine your keyword phrases is to ask customers what words they would use when searching for the product or service you provide. Asking your customers or even potential costumers exactly what they would search for is a great idea for helping you choose the perfect keywords.
Now that we have the basis of your keyword phrases down, where do you put these keywords to maximize your online rankings? The most common places to find keywords are in the title tags, heading tags, img alt tags, and links. There are other places such as the text of the page, the comment tags, URL name and meta description that you should reflect your phrases to as well.
We have many of our keyword metatags carefully placed in our meta description. Your meta description should have a bit more detail than your keywords. One of QuinnCom Web Design's meta descriptions is "West Palm Beach Web Design Company near North Palm Beach in Jupiter." Always make sure you have your keyword phrases in the body of your text as well.
This will provide optimal placement for your website in the search engines. These are just a few hints in order to get your website listed higher in the search engines.
